Supergirl/The Flash Crossover

Very fun episode last night. Supergirl and Flash have fantastic on screen chemistry.

It was really nice to see Flash without 4 or 5 father figure types (Joe, Harry, Henry, Jay, Oliver) dominating over him for a change too.

Here's hoping that Supergirl gets picked up for season 2, and that next year's crossover is even more epic.

Supergirl/The Flash Crossover Tonight

Supergirl officially joins the Arrowverse as the 4th superhero series existing in continuity with: Arrow, The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow. I suppose it's the 5th really since Constantine crossed over with Arrow last year, although whether that Arrow Constantine was of the same "Earth" as the one that we saw on the NBC Constantine show is still unclear. If you want to be hyper specific: The Vixen animated series makes it 6 shows. But Vixen was only 30 min or so of combined Web shorts so lets leave that as an asterisk.

Other than the Law and Order shows, have there been this many shows currently on the air in continuity with one an other? Happy Days, Laverne and Shirley, Mork and Joannie Loves Chachi come to mind, but I don't believe there were ever more than 3 of those on at the same time?

Anyway, all that aside, I'm really looking forward to seeing the Supergirl and Flash characters on screen together. It should be fun.

There is a TV Supergirl action figure scheduled for later this year, should be a nice DC TV addition to the collection.

Outrage

Here's the thing, there is no outrage mechanism or consensus that can get rid of people any more.

Snyder is still in office.

Trump can actually run the campaign he's running.

Unless you can financially boycott something, no outrage works.

Chipotle had to appear to do something, they were getting hit financially when people stopped eating there.

The University a bit back that had to make changes when player's striking threatened the college's sports revenue.

Outrage without finding a way to hit the target in the bank account is of little value now.

Outrage without financial consequence is positive for the target. Attention paid even in disgust has monetary value.

Batman v Superman

I am not planning to see Batman v Superman in theaters. I'll watch it at home at some point. Warner Brothers certainly doesn't deserve to be rewarded their highest first weekend exhibition fees for taking two hopeful characters and dragging them into a mudpool of destruction and anger.

I'd encourage you to wait at least a month in the theater, when more of the money will go to the theater than the studio. Or wait until home video. Seriously, what's the rush? If you need good DC superheroes to watch, there are 5 DC shows on TV right now that are more worth your time. And if darker is still more your thing, watch Daredevil season 2 on Netflix, at least it's darkness makes sense for the characters.

Such a cute little creature, only in hindsight was it apparent where things went horribly wrong...

Gizmo

Picked up a Gizmo Gremlin figure for $4. Avoid bright light, Don't get him wet, and don't feed him after midnight. Three points of articulation, cute tiny figure.

Earth-23 Superman

Nice pickup on Amazon for normal store pricing of the Superman of Earth-23. In DC Comics there are various alternate dimensions where alternate histories and heroes reside, some of the dimensions are quite different and others are quite close to the "main" universe where most of the published comics happen. One of those Earths is "Earth 23" a dimension where many of the Justice League heroes just happen to not be white.

This Earth's Kalel is also the President of the United States in his secret identity.

Given that the character has only been in a handful of issues, he's a great addition to the new Multiversity action figure line.

Random Non-Sequiters

Weeks go by pretty quick now. Still pretty tied to the 8 to 5 work day, since I stay on Jenn's schedule for the most part. Nice that the weather is getting warmer so that Quinn and I can add the park to the daily routine.

Very little contact with people from my former office of 20 years. Occasional emails and Facebook posts of course. Maybe summer and warmer weather will bring with it a lunch or two.

Other friends are mostly occupied during the weekday.

Quinn still tires us out for the most part. He goes to bed at 8pm and were often ready to follow suit an hour or two later. Not a complaint. It's just how it is for now. Every month lately it gets a little easier to squeeze in some extra activities though.

Tech news has fallen to the side of the constant checking routine, I still keep up, but there isn't a lot of stuff happening lately. Most of the space has become mature, and cautious and at least for now, satisfied needs do not motivate and people seem pretty satisfied with their current selection of social media, phones, gadgets, streaming services and games.

Family Dollar 6" Star Wars figures

I don't shop Family Dollar often. I learned of this line of figures from a Toy collector on Twitter. These $6.75 figures are exclusive to Family Dollar. I hit a couple stores and got lucky on the second try.

As you can see from the box back, these come in Waves of 4. Kanan, Han and Luke are all pretty good scale with the more expensive Star Wars Black. Darth Vader was a little short.

Here's a comparison of the Star Wars Black Han ($20 left) and the Family Dollar Han ($6.75 right). I learned from the side by side that I have my Star Wars Black Han blaster holster on backwards, I'll have to fix that.

The Han Solo I picked up for Jenn. She has some Take your action figure to Work Day pictures up on her blog.

There are only 3 points of articulation on these figures: head and shoulders. But for the price, they are nice sculpts and look good with the "real" thing.

Kanan Jarus from Star Wars Rebels is probably the main figure to get though, as he has yet to be released in the Star Wars Black line and at the moment this is the only 6" figure way to add him to your shelves.

There are also some Marvel figures in a similar style at the same low price point, but nothing that hasn't been made in the proper Marvel Legends line.

Anyway, neat figures for the price.

Batpunk

Walmart has some exclusive comic styled Dark Knight returns characters included in it's waves of the Batman v Superman multi-verse figures.

A Son of Batman (metaphorically, not literally) or what I've always called a Batpunk is in that wave. He's largely a redeco of the old DC Classics Guy Gardner, and other than being a little on the tall side, he's a fun character to pick up.

I'd like to if I ever find them cheap pick up one or two more so that I have a proper gang of them, but for now, I'll just have a Batpunk gang of one..

Silvermane's head

Picked up a Speed Demon action figure, one of the accessories with the figure was the mobster villain Silvermane's head mounted to an RC car (a story point in Superior Foes of Spider-man).

I picked up a cheap overseas knockoff Ultron on eBay and used it to give Silvermane his proper robot body back. Fun quick custom. Hopefully Hasbro continues their recent trend of providing alternate heads with figures.

DC Superhero Girls Bumblebee

A week and a half-a-go a new line of Superhero toys targeted at girls launched: DC Superhero girls. There are some online cartoons supporting the toy line but they are pretty unremarkable, in that they put all the DC superheros into highschool, ala Sky High, for some reason; but the toys themselves are very well done. Nice sculpts and good articulation for $10 6" figures. Teen Titan Bumblebee has never been made as a 6" figure, so despite her more cutesy design, I picked her up.

The show also has a young high school Hal Jordan in a Green Lantern baseball tee type costume, so hopefully they make him in wave 2. Other than Bumblebee though, most of the other characters on the show have been made in 6" figures before though, so it's unlikely that I'd get very many of these figures -- not that I'm anywhere near their target market ;)

While boys have a lot of superhero choices, if they would have named this line DC Superhero High, instead of DC Superhero Girls, I bet they'd sell even more of the figures to all kids. It's kind of odd, given the current trend at de-gendering toy aisles that they didn't.

Sherlock

Finally picked up a Sherlock figure. It's made by the same company and in the same style as the 5" Doctor Who figures.

I'd like to think they'd eventually do a Sherlock/Doctor Who crossover some day. But until then, if you've never seen it, take a look at this wonderful Fan made mashup from 2013:

DC Movie and TV Figures

Recently I've picked up some more DC TV and Movie figures. Wonder Woman above is from the less articulated basic line. I intended to get the more expensive multiverse line through a really good Amazon Warehouse open/returned package deal. When the figure arrived however it appears the previous purchaser kept a $20 figure and replaced it with a $10 figure.

At first I was a little annoyed, but the price was already closer to the basic figure and I decided that despite the less articulation, the size of this figure fit in better with my older Movie Master Superman and Batman, plus I kindof preferred the headsculpt and costume colors on this one. So things worked out.

I also was able to pick up a loose Flash and Arrow on eBay for cheap, so now with the older Green Lantern, Supes and Bats, I have a nice Live Action Justice League grouping going.

Martin Luther King, socialist: "capitalism has outlived its usefulness" / Boing Boing
source: boingboing

I imagine you already know that I am much more socialistic in my economic theory than capitalistic. And yet I am not so opposed to capitalism that I have failed to see its relative merits. It started out with a noble and high motive, viz, to block the trade monopolies of nobles, but like most human system it fail victim to the very thing it was revolting against. So today capitalism has outlived its usefulness. It has brought about a system that takes necessities from the masses to give luxuries to the classes.
